Guano Clearance
The mess left behind by birds can be considerable. Pigeon and Gull droppings can carry, E-Coli, Salmonella, Psittacosis, Ornithosis, Botulism, to name a few. Nesting materials can be full of fleas, flies and mites that can spread into a building. Lofts, sheds, alcoves, gullies, roofs etc are all places where the guano builds up, when no proofing has been done. A build up of guano and nesting material may be blocking gullies or downpipes, which could cause a major water leak. Building Cleaning Many buildings and monuments are covered in pigeon guano. Apart from the diseases contained in the guano, it is also very acidic and breaks down many types of masonry. Even a small amount of guano on a window ledge can become a health hazard if the window is open. Areas around air conditioning units should be kept clear to stop the spores entering the system. Following cleaning, a bird management programme should be considered.
